What is the name of your state? mississippi
i agreed when we got divorced four yrs ago to have him only pay $200 per month, for two kids (stupid!). i knew that he was not financially stable. he is in the military, and i've learned that he has been promoted.....should i ask for more child support? can this be done without going through court?

First, you might want to go to your state's child support calculator to see what he would be paying, that is, if you know about what he makes.

Then if you see he should be paying more, you can print out and show him the calculator and any other info relating to the state child support guidelines and tell him you would like to leave the courts out of it and could you guys come up with something.

If he refuses, then you'll have to hire a lawyer or go through CSE. CSE will only charge you a small fee of around $20 for filing and they will handle everything for you. You may even qualify not to have to pay a fee.

Here is a web site that talks about state child support guidelines. I believe they have the calculators on there too but if not, you may be able to find it through a search engine.

Contact DHS

I worked two and one half years at my company processing child support garnishments, most of them through Mississippi, every month we had to fill out wage statements on each employee garnished through Mississippi, too. I believe you should contact DHS and let them handle it. Also, DHS handled child support for me through my first ex-husband and he lived in Arizona. Call your Mississippi county DHS, they can at least tell you the proper steps.
