My daughter turns 15 next month. She will turn 17 the summer we want to go.

No, this is not for this summer. This would be for summer 2014. I had a feeling mom wouldn't cooperate so I started getting the ball rolling now.

Then wait until she turns 16, and apply for the passport then. If I recall correctly, minors age 16 & 17 require the consent of only one parent/legal guardian to obtain a passport.

I was going to suggest waiting until kiddo is 16 as well.

However, others have said that one must have the written consent of the non-traveling parent in order to take a child out of country. I've never seen this happen, or be requested, and I've known people who've traveled extensively without one of the parents of the children - and in some cases, with NO parents of the children. Still, it's best to find out if this might be required for the country(ies) you're planning to travel to.
