What is the name of your state?NJ

I rent an apartment where I've been for 4 years. I am getting ready to buy a house from a relative. My lease is up Aug 31 but my relative does not plan on leaving until late Sept / Oct . I've already asked my landlord about a month to month for up to 2 months. She told me a friend of her's is looking for an apt for her college daughter who's semester begins in Sept so she would have to get back to me. Then she told me to let her know deffinetly what was going on by the end of June. What I wanted to know is : Do I have the option of month to month over a new tenant? From what I understand , in NJ, the current tenant has first rights to staying in the apt. It's not really a big deal so pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease refrain from the craziness that usually exsist in message/advice boards. Just looking for a simple answer. Thanks

Well

Actually what I looked up was that when the lease end it automatically goes to month to month... to keep everything kosher... I think a written notice that states when your move out will be would be in order.

Because the terms of the lease end...there may be changes in the term of tenancy... do a search on New Jersey LL/tenant rights.

This is what I found... http://www.lsnjlaw.org/english/placeilive/rent/tenantsrights.cfm#ch5

In other words... can kinda go both ways... sorry sometimes there is not a simple answer.
