What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? South Carolina
So, we bought a house and were ready to send the first payment. We received a letter saying that the mortgage had been sold: This is your new company, this is your new account number, this is your payment. Simple, right? I wish!
I sent the first payment with account number on it. Then we got a call from our former landlord that a letter had come to our old address. We went to get it. Well, this letter was from the new lender and the payment was about $100 more than the first one. I called to find out why, but got no response. So, I sent the difference (actually more) so we wouldn't get any calls for a late payment. Well, we got a call anyway. Come to find out, the first account number and amount we got was TOTALLY WRONG. Therefore, the money I sent was credited to someone else's account! I ended up faxing all of the proof that it was their fault (through letters) and proof that I made the payments. (This has been going on for over a month!)
I have talked to a customer rep...she went into the original account and found where my money had been posted. Yet, the changes have NOT been made. Furthermore, they are saying that we are behind! I have made almost $2000 in mortgage payments yet they are crediting me for $1250.
Here's the kicker: There is a credit to my account that I DIDN'T make! No kidding! So, someone else has been screwed, too, I guarantee.
What is the best recourse for me??? I want my money credited to my account so I can get refinanced!
By the way, heaven help anyone who gets sold to Nationstar!!! They have an F rating with the BBB. How are they still in business???
Thank you!
