I began working @ my plant as a temp., to hire; I kept working temp., and after 6 months I was finally hired on full time. I had three months "waiting period" through the company to be eligible for my insurance/co.,benefits; My insurance/co., benefits has just taken effect a week ago... now the plant has targeted me for a lay-off!
After I've "paid my dues" so to speak...my plant has come up with this ridiculous scheme to lay-off four NEW people because orders for production have slowed for the month of Oct. The company states,"Must lay off four people to 'wing-it' for a couple of weeks for orders/production to resume". The black list has gone from 15 down to 4! I do not see how four people could have that much affect on the gross revenue of the plant.The headofficials are allowing a public opion vote to decided if the company will lay-off these four persons or vote to cut back to a 38 hr., work week until orders/production picks back up. The company allowed a vote of this nature on Fri., 10/8/99 60% employees in favor of 38hr work week...by the next mon.,some of the 60% weren't willing to donate 2hours of their pay to save 4 people from loosing their jobs(mine included). Some of my co-workers were complaing that 10 people didn't vote on it last Fri., & some said the balotts weren't counted correctly...anyway my company has agreeded to another vote and I await the decision of a lay off via my co workers...This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever encountered! First, to hire me full time then say the company can't make it for 2weeks if they don't lay off 4 people. Secondly, that the heads in charge are allowing the co workers to make the decisions! I feel I'm being discrimianated against, its all bogus and I have a wife and two small childrem to support. I'll loose my group insurance and my child requries continued medical treatment for asthma and ADD/ADHD. Help!!! What can I do to save my job.
