My landlord debacle

I got a doozie in my hands.

So here's the deal. My wife went to jail in July for some warrants from about a half a decade ago. During that time we got behind on the rent by 100 bucks or so, maybe 200. We pay weekly; I caught up, and paid him 500 on August 3, missed another week due to court cost, and fees for wife but oaidbhim 200 on the 19th. We end up being behind again. He tells my wife he will work with us and do arrangements forbpastbdue of 200, but ask her to go sleep with some men for 200 bucks a a favor to him so we can catch up on the rent, he declines, he gets upset and says we need to pay him 200 by 24, no more arrangements. I wanted to confront him and call police but my wife was worried he'd throw us out. So we end up paying the 200. Today the man calls and says we owe 600 in back rent. We ask him how, and never gives us an answer. Just says we owe or need to leave in 2 days( yeah I'm not that dumb) .

The thing I'm worried about is this guy never gave us receipts, we ask and say later he'd give us one and he never did. Unless my math is wrong this dude is trying to burn us. He has not once sent us anything on paper showing our balance, we thought we were caught up! I told him yeah right take us to court. The wife says oh no we don't need court oaybus 209 Saturday and move out next Saturday!! Has what a load of crap.

So I know with week to week it's. 3 day notice in Texas. After that what should my next move be? They already threatened to cut off our lights. I need more than 3 days to find a place, pack and move. I feel like there is a lot of shady things this guy is doing. Not to mention he had me do some work to clear some of the pat due, he never told me what he was paying, and to top it off he isn't taking anything of the rent for it like he said he was!

Last thing is, we lost our copy of the lease, we asked him over and over for a copy and he never comes thru! Bonus! They have come into our house to do a check multiple times with no notice or no emergency! Ohh get this they came to remove a bed we were using for guest and chipped the wall.

It sounds like you need to find a new place to live - and soon.

Because you did not keep records of your payments (including, I assume, your security deposit), I don't see you having much success in recovering any or all of it.

I kept receipts for the money orders for August. As well as a 500 dollar check

It sounds like you need to find a new place to live - and soon.

Because you did not keep records of your payments (including, I assume, your security deposit), I don't see you having much success in recovering any or all of it.

Good luck.
Not to mention finding a new place is definitely a possible course if action but what I'm not clear about is time frame. I have 3 days after he gives notice, then he has to go to courts..after that what do I do..or more specifically how much extra time can I get appealing it, which I will do especially since he offered a payment plan and declined after my wife declined has attempt at soloticing prostitution

Edit-im a bit more calm today so let me touch on a few things here. I could pay what he is asking, my deal is I don't owe that amount. I've given him 800 dollars this month with receipts to back it up. I'm worried he's going to say I owe for July ir something. But if I do pay him would I have a chance later to sue for the amount I over paid or would I just lose out.

You apparently did not meet the terms of your payment plan.

I personally think you should concentrate on finding a new place to live rather than looking for ways to delay your departure.

Dub In states where the landlord must issue a written demand notice (for x number of days ) telling the tenant to pay up or get out or risk being taken to court for non payment , It can take X number of days after filing to actually get to court. Ideally if you cant pay the best thing to do is to vacate before the LL files with the court for a eviction hearing. Many landlords do use screening firms and will not rent to people who have court history created because of the eviction hearing. If the LL sues after you vacated its going to be for the debt it wont be about possession of a rental you owe money for and still live in.
