Is there a way to change my son's last name (he is 5 years old) without involving the natural father if he was not even listed as his father on the birth certificate? If so, how do I do this? Unknown is stated on his birth certificate. I have since gotten married and we do not want to go the adoption route as we would have to prove a father. Please help!!!! Want to get this done before he starts school. Thanks!!!

I went through the same thing. I went down to the county court house and picked up a change of name packet for my son. I asked about the birth certificate and was told that if no father was on there then I was good as long as the natural father was not in the picture, which in my case he never has been.
