What is the name of your state? OH
I'm posting this here, just in case there are others who have been there, done that and could help
X and I have been divorced for 10 years. We share 50/50 custody. Neither pays child support to the other as the children alternate weeks between houses.
My husband and I bought 16 yr old a car (nothing expensive). Partially, to make things easier for her (X grumbles about driving her to activities, so she stopped signing up for things). Currently, she holds a temp permit. She will be getting the 'real thing' next week.
Questions: Who is responsible for paying the auto insurance, if she's not paying it herself (which she will, once she starts working this summer)?
Currently, she is covered by our insurance when she drives our cars, and X's when she drives his. But things change when she gets the real license. Then she is considered a youthful driver, and it goes up quite a bit.
Do we each have to insure her as a youthful driver at each home? Split the cost?(which means I will have to pay for it all, X will never contribute).
We are giving her the car, but it's still registered under my husband's name. Should we put it in her name? Could we still be sued if she were in an accident?
If we do end up paying for her insurance, is she still covered if she drives any of the cars at her father's house?
Thanks!
