Ohio--The place I am employed by has been sold and the new owner says he will keep everything the same, but we have to be fired from the previous owner and rehired by him (new owner). From my understanding they are not going to keep the time we put into the job. We have to start all over from day one and some have been there for 15 years and longer. If I don't take the job for this reason will I be unable to collect unemployment for that reason--since he is willing to keep my pay the same, but cut out benefits we have now and the time we have acquired?

Probably not, but this question would best be answered by someone at the UI office in your area. Unemployment law varies by state and the specific situation. In my state you would not be able to get unemployment if you did not take the new job.

Rehiring employees and assigning new start dates when a business is acquired is very common. As you are being offered continuing employment - same job, same wages - it is highly doubtful you can collect UC benefits should you refuse their offer but as cbg says, you can check with your local UC office to be sure. In my State as well you would be unable to collect benefits under these circumstances.
