My wife and I got married over two years ago; filed I-130 and I-485. I have not heard from the INS since regarding conditional residence. I checked with the Atlanta Service Center and found out that they are backed up for at least another year. In other words, sit and wait?! Is there a way to accelerate this process (maybe with the help of a lawyer)?
Unfortunately, my wife has been cheating on me. As a result we are contemplating a divorce. I have been paying all bills for her and her son from a previous marriage and naturally feel taken advantage of. That we did get married for the right reasons is clear and easy to show. That was then, however,... .
What would the implications of a divorce be concerning my legal status, the conditional residence (whenever the INS gets to it), and is there anything I can do besides trying to fix my marriage (obviously, that has nothing to do with legal rights and duties...)?
Thanx a lot for any help in this matter. I am very lost in this conflict of moral obligation and legal duty.

the texas service center does your application. the I-485 processing is presently handling march of this year application. the I-130 however is still backlogged for 2-3 years. One of your only options is to remarry and renew the process.
you might be eligible for a I-751 application.
have you officially sponsored the child as your own?
the fact that you were in a good faith marriage and if you did adopt the child, that strengthens your case to go through cancellation of removal. Either way consult a very very good attorney, and get ready to pay some serious law bills.
good luck!
