no hardwood flooring allowed

What is the name of your state? CA

About a year ago the homeowners of our condo voted against the installation of hardwood-flooring-- complaining of the noise. Many of the owners who voted against hardwood flooring are seniors who are hard of hearing, and have no sympathy for young families-- their carpets of course are immaculate. We have 2 children under the age of four, and one more on the way, and would like to install hardwood flooring as it is more sanitary. With potty-training, spills from food and drinks, etc. our carpet has gotten quite disgusting.

Is their any way to get around this rule against the installation of hardwood flooring?

Not so. When you buy into a condo, you agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the building or you don't buy in that building.

Just to piss them off install tile instead much easier to clean (in my opinion) than wood flooring. If they think wood is noisy wait till they hear what tile sounds like. I honestly don't see why they did not just make the rule requireing that if wood was to be installed that you had to put down sound proofing first.

I am just having a hard time getting past this logic. Would it not be the other way around. That the people that are voting against the hardwood floors have super-hearing?

Nope, the old people can't hear the people above them walking on the hardwood floors. And since the old people all have carpeting (immaculate, I might add) no-one can hear their walkers, wheelchairs and canes.

Just wondering what are you buying? Not the outside, Not the inside, Not the floors and maybe not even the walls? HUM! I wouldn't consider that buying and certainly not even ownership! Sounds more like renting or leasing to me!
