What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I live kitty-corner to a grocery store that is a little lower than me and I actually look straight out onto their roof which contains two refrigeration units. They are very loud. Sometimes. There's really no rhyme or reason to the irregularity of the noise. They go on and off constantly. The city has worked with me and contacted them for me, but evidently the store did a "noise evaluation" (or something) and it was determined that they were not above the noise limit for this area. (Of course). So the city has dropped it. But it continues. It's really loud! And by at I mean if it were you, I don't think you'd like to be outside for a nice lunch, or sitting in the sun, or having a warm summer night dinner out there when they are noisy either. It's not just when I'm outside either. They wake me up at night and are so loud sometimes I have to turn on music or something else to drown out the noise. I am not e only one it bothers. There are 6 other neighbors who are also affected.

I've talked to 2 workers that serviced them and they both said when that happens, it's an easy fix. That they just need an adjustment. So like I said, sometimes a few months go by with quiet and then I'd have to call again but now the city says they won't help anymore.

What should I do now? Please help! Thank you!!

The reality of living in an area that is mixed zoning, is that you have to deal with the normal noises involved with commercial property.

And yeah...while the fix may be easy, its not inexpensive. If you are talking about a mom and pop grocery store, its highly unlikely that they can afford to pay for an "adjustment" every time the noise is beyond your particular tolerance. It costs my boss a good 800.00 bucks every time a heating and cooling guy has to climb up on our roof to mess with the units up there.
