I signed a noncompete clause with the pest control company I currently work for. It states that if I leave the company I cannot work in this industry within 30 miles and if I do I will have to pay $2,000.00 a week for 2 years. I live in Texas and I am wanting to start my own one man business. Will this noncompete clause hold up? It seems extreme and 2 years seems long.

The general rule of thumb is that if the non-compete clause is reasonable under the circumstances for that industry and area, it will be upheld.
