Well, I foolishly took a job 8 years ago selling magazines door to door. The company I worked for did not give me a permit which would have made it legal. Anyhow I was arrested for selling without a permit in Hopkinsville, KY, and spent 4 days in jail before going to court. I was ordered to pay a fine I think it was around $200, and released from jail thank goodnes!! After this experience I quit my job, and moved home to Tennessee, and completely ignored the fine, and it remains unpaid. I don't know for sure that I have a warrant, but it's pretty much a sure thing. My question is will I have the option to just pay the fine, or will I be going to jail? This was my first, and only arrest

You can call the court and ask.

If there is a warrant will I have to turn myself in, and go to jail or would you think I could just pay the fine?

If there is a warrant, it will need to be vacated. It COULD be possible to both pay the fine and vacate the warrant at the same time.

You can call the court and ask about the fine and the warrant. Or you can contact an attorney in your area and have him do this for you.

Selling without a permit was the offense?

Yes it was selling without a permit.

Actually, I am a bit surprised you were held in jail for 4 days in the first place.

The general enforcement action for selling without a permit is a fine.

I suggest you call the court and ask.

I think it was because I was from out of town. Still that seemed harsh considering it was my first time being in trouble

I got more information about this. I contacted a lawyer, and they called the court. The lawyer informed me that the sheriffs office does not have a warrant, but they do have fines in their system. The court is not willing to set up a payment plan because it's been so long. Then the lawyer said there is probably a bench warrant because of this, and informed me that if I get pulled over or anything I will be arrested no matter where it happens. She said I would be extradicted to Kentucky. Is that last part accurate? I wouldn't think they would really do that

Extradited for failure to pay 8 years ago a $200 fine, the fine assessed because you did not have a permit to sell magazines?

The attorney you spoke to actually said you would be extradited?

I think you might want to speak to another lawyer.
