What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey
Recently members in our organization was informed that the current board and past board members have yet not filed taxes for our organization since 2000. Tax ID was given in in December, 2000. I've searched on the IRS website and was told that the organization is "recognized." what does that mean? Can we have fundraisers and ask for donated items even-though and give them a donation letter, since we haven't filed but recognized. Also this org done a huge fundraiser for another "foundation" using their tax id for all who donated to this "foundation." Is that legal? I thought each organization/association is restricted using their tax id for the sole purpose of the organization. Can the "donated monies" be deposited in the in the association/organization bank account. How about 50/50 raffles? Just found out that they do 50/50 raffle, without a raffle license. Is the place of business responsible to make sure they have a license? What are the penalities if both, association/business? How does anyone go about getting a raffle license. Too many questions that need answers. Can this association do any business such as write out donation letters when we haven't filed any taxes to date, but we're recognized---does it matter?
