What are the laws regarding non profit youth sports programs in regards to benefits and fundraising. The new local football and cheer program for the registration fee are able to purchase the football uniforms, safety equipment(helmet, should guarder, etc), balls, and all other necessary equipment yet for the cheerleaders they do not purchase anything but a first aid kit. Because the cost of the uniforms, competition fee is very expensive, we wanted to have a fundraiser for the cheerleaders to help offset these costs to participate. The league feels this will not be fair to the football players eventhough we participate in other league fundraisers(which money is then used for the benefit of the football players) and are caring the cost of field use and insurance for both teams.

I don't see anything wrong with fundraising to help out parents with costs as long as we participate in the other fundraisers.

What laws are in effect that assure that there are fair and equal treatment within the organization and that all can benefit together. Please help. Thanks for your time.
