nonmodified nontaxable alimony

I was not awarded alimony. The other party was awarded all property, ie. the home, the businesses, the commercial property, etc. and he was ordered to pay me payments over the course of several years for my half of the assets. Why would my lawyer structure those payments as nonmodifiable nontaxable alimony if this is not alimony? It is the equitable distrubtion of our marital assets
