 Yesterday , I was notifed verbally by my landlord that the company which manages my apartment wants me to move. To make a long story short, my former girlfriend and I moved in on July 30th, but soon realized that it wasn't going to work out . While our initial agreement was that rent was to be equally divided, it turns out that she has more financial obligations than she told me, and it will be impossible for her to hold up her end of this agreement. She agreed that she would leave on or before the end of August. She did leave but has yet to return her set of keys to the apartment, or the mail box key .
The issue is that the management firm asked if I would assume the lease.
As it is now, we are both listed on the lease, and due to the circumstances of our break up, I feel that she should be resposible for her share.
My questions are :
1) Is the management here required to give me written notice ?
2) How long do I have before they can forceibly put me out ?
I was told that they 1st have to notify me in writting, and then I would have 60 days before they could make me move.
I'm currently looking for another apartment, but don't feel that I should be forced to move until I find a suitible apartment.
I need to know the answers as soon as possible , Thank You.

If you are both on the lease then you are both individually responsible for the lease and the full amount of rent owed...

Your post seems to miss pertinent info..

Are you asking how long you can sit there for with out paying rent?

If yes the day you are late the landlord can serve a 3-day pay or quit notice and then on 4th day file an eviction at which point once they win which they will a sheriff will physically remove you if necessary plus you will be liable for all legal fees rent owed, plus rent for every day you are in the property which again you will lose.

P.S If you owe rent forget about the 60 day clause that is only for those that do not owe rent and that are being given notice to leave.
