What is the name of your state? Missouri,

I recieved a NOTICE OF LEVY from the Sheriff's office. This is for credit card debt. I am on Social Security Disability and I am just simply not able to pay this debt.

The last paragraph states:

To claim any exemption with respect to the property levied upon, you must file a verified (as sworn before a notary) request in the Office of the Sheriff.
You may file your request in person or by mail, and must do so within (20) days after notice of levy, Any exemption allowed by federal law may be claimed at any time prior to the sale of property or disbursement of funds.

Should I get an attorney to do this? I live with a friend, I honestly own my clothes, 1996 Grand AM is in my name, (a car that I had bought for my daughter about 6 years ago when I was still working),worth about maybe $500.00 at the most, and a resort membership which also has my wife as an additional owner. Their are back dues of about $500.00 owed on that. I have not lived with my wife for 15 years now, that is the only thing we own together. My SSI disability is $1,169.00 per month. I give that to the person I live with to cover my living expenses--rent, utillities, insurance, and food. The letter makes reference to Supreme Court Rule 76.05, and 452.140, 513.430, 513.440, 513-475 and 513.480 Revised Statutes of Missour.

The other thing that was wierd about this NOTICE OF LEVY, it was mailed to me unsigned by the Sherrif. I truly donot have the money to get an attorney for this matter.

Any and all advice would be appriciated.

You have a judgment against you. Contact the court clerk tomorrow morning and ask if they have a form for you to fill out to claim your rightful exemptions. Social Security disability income is 100 % EXEMPT. If your SSD is direct deposited, then you have proof of the source of that money and that its an exempt source.
