Dear Sir,

My brother recently went to the states on a J-1 visa to do an internship with the car rental company "Enterprise".

I have a found a company that is interested in hiring me but as I have not yet graduated, I would like to work for this company while I complete my degree online.

How can this company sponsor me for a J-1 ?
Thank you very much.

Define 'hiring me' If this a full time position or an internship ?

Thank you for your quick reply.

They want me to work for them and I would like to receive payment (though payment is not necessary). As such, I am seeking a legal way to work for them. My student visa has expired and I am not yet eligible for an H-1. (until I complete my online courses and get my degree). The company would be willing to sponsor me for an internship as well. The company and I are basically seeking a way for me to work (with or without pay) for 6 months to a year. I understand I cannot partake in an internship on a tourist visa... is that right? What are my options?

Thank you.

I am afriad I am not going to be much help to you and a guess could be way off. You see, a J-1 does not allow you to work full time and there are a few restrictions involved. I can tell you for sure that you can not work or do anything on a tourist visa except be a tourist.

My only advice is to call an immigration attorney and explain fully the situation. My 'hunch' tells me what you want to do is not possible... but only an attorney can tell you for sure.
