What is the name of your state? indiana

I was engaged to a man and purchased a truck (my name is the only one on the title). I let him drive it until he could buy it from me. We broke up and now he won't give it back and he won't pay me for it. I found out he's on drugs and I am afraid he's going to do something either to or with the truck that will get me in trouble. What are my options? I don't have a bunch of money and I think he may have skipped town.

**A: have you ever considered calling the police and reporting YOUR truck stolen?

When I called both police and sheriff, they said because I had allowed him to use the truck that it was a civil matter and they wouldn't report it stolen. I'm worried sick...I'm a nice person; I'm so trusting, I let him use my debit card and he used it to purchase painkillers on his ex-wife's prescription at a local pharmacy. I've got proof of that, too.

If you know where he is, simply take your spare keys and seize the truck.

Or, you could consider filing a small claims action against him for the value of the truck. As for his using your debit card, I assume that you also gave him your PIN number, which is tacit approval, so you have no claim for those funds (unless you can prove that it was a loan).

I gave car keys to a guy to test drive a car I was selling and he never came back so I went through the same thing. Police can't say it was stolen since I gave him the keys. I finally hired a repo company, had to show them the title to the car and all that and they found the car and towed it to me. Just an idea and it was very easy for me to get it back. He can't call your truck in as being stolen since he's not the owner of the truck. Do you know where he lives? If so, go there and stand on the hood of the truck and make a lot of noise, someone will call the police and when they get there explain to them that he has your truck and won't give it back. Be sure and have your title with you as proof. You'll get it back.

Your truck

I live in Maryland. My former fiance and business associate did the same thing...even tried to sell the truck!
After three months of wrangling with Motor Vehicle and Quick Loan Companies, I finally got the truck back without any further hassles...the police advised me even if I gave him the keys, he was committing "unauthorized use of a motor vehicle" (which is different from stealing it) and if I could provide the title and proof it was solely mine, I could reposess it, either on my own or with their help, as soon as I could find it!
Good Luck!

I didn't start this thread and can't understand why I'm getting all the messages that are posted to it.

You posted to this thread and are now 'subscribed' to it. This will give you an update notice anytime the thread has a new post (as was done by this persons posting a useless 'me to' post to a long dead thread).

better late than never

I disagree with those whining about late posts. I find "me too" stories most interesting, since they show law IN PRACTICE, rather than IN THEORY.

treeboss: I appreciate your post, and so do many other readers.

"and so do many other readers."

Exactly how many other readers appreciate responses to old dead posts, and how do you KNOW this?? Do you know the secret forum handshake??
