What is the name of your state? AL

Right now there are alot of abuse and fraud with old junk debt buyers.
They buy old debt and then call people like crazy expecting to be paid.
The whole thing is stupid. What difference will a phone call make anyway.

You have no agreement with these people, you did not sign anything
with them, you dont owe them nothing. The debt is pass the statue of limitations
and uncollectable. Do they even have a proper license to operate?
Attorney Generals get complaints everyday about these scams.
The purchase of your debt is a bad investment and there is no law
guaranteeing money back on bad investments.

On a web site called rip off report, some people actually sent money to these
scam artists and they were told the money never arrived or they still owe more
money anyway and to send more money. Whats the point?

These people make money by scaring people, they are rude on the phone
and make outrageous demands and tell lies.

Trash the letters or return to sender, get call blocker and block their phone calls,
or get caller Id and dont answer their calls.
If you are served with court papers, its no big deal. Tell the judge its pass the
statue of limitations and get it dismissed.
If for some odd reason they do get judgement on you, the judge says you owe them,
so what. If they try to garnish your wages, just Quit your job
and get another job some where else. It will take them forever to find out
where your new job is, if you even work. By then they most likely will move on
to easier targets.
You dont have to tell them anything. You have no obligation to them.
Never offer information, stay off the phone with them.
Get an answering machine to record all their calls.

If everyone done this, they would be put out of business.
Get as much information against them as possible, there are Consumer Protection
Laws and they violate these laws many times. Maybe one day we can get together
and file class action law suit on all these frauds for false information and other
violations.
These people are hoping you will be too stupid to catch on
and just send the money out of fear. They really have nothing else to go on.

The Bottom line is no one can make you pay money
that you do not want to pay.

I talked to a lawyer about this and its bascially what he said.

I am not a lawyer, these are my opinions.

Lots of people don't know what the law is.
They dont know about Consumer Protection laws
or statue of limitations.
Old junk debt collectors take advantage of this.
They call people everyday under names like "unavailable"
or "private call" or "toll free service".
Some have computer dial ups which tell you that
you have an important business matter with someone
and to call the number. Its all full of crap.
You dont have to do anything.

you go girl!

I read up on this and you are correct. Especially if like cc or something was charged off years prior and the collections you did not deal with.

Perhaps cease and desist letters, and return to sender.
They might get the point after awhile.

I read they buy them for .05 or.10 on the dollar. Unbelievable.
It is nothing but harassment! I am with you~ makethem go out of biz.
You are right the majorty of people are not even aware of a statute of limitations much less the scam artists are out there.

If a "junk debt" collection agency wants to sue you on a debt they purchased that is yours and is from 1987, they can do so. It is not THEIR responsibility to make sure you know your rights. You DO still owe the money - they just can't collect if you present your defense properly.
