What is the name of your state? NJ

Ok, Ok, don't bare fangs at me. LOL Just trying to prove I am right! Ha Ha....Here it goes:

My friend and I were talking about special needs children...(I have a stepson who has CP) Anyway, she said that children who receive a check from the state, is NOT entitled to child support as well...I begged to differ. Even though a child may be on SSI, they ARE still entitled to child support from the parents...Am I right or wrong???

Thanks a bunch!!

You are right. A child's receiving disability benefits does not remove the parent's responsibility for paying child support.
I know a child with MD who receives SSD benefits, SSI, and child support from his father. There is some limitation on the child support that applies after the child becomes either 18 or 21 and I am not sure about that part.

The child does continue to get child support but it is often less due to the benefit the child is receiving.
