What is the name of your state? New York State

If someone has a one year lease in an apartment building, are they paying monthly rent or are they allowed to pay it all upfront or at the end of the lease? Someone told me that you can pay all the rent right before the end of the lease but I thought that was a wrong info.

Oy a serial poster.

Shah.. Your post makes no sense. Are you the landlord? No landlord would let someone pay at the END of a lease. Sure they would let them pay at the beginning of the lease all at once. Why not. More money in their bank account to draw interest.

What are you getting at?

Oiy away

Oiy, someone who doesn't "read" well.
At the end of my question you will notice that I am confused by that info, that someone told me this and thought it was way off wrong. So if my question doesn't make sense it's only because the person who gave me the info made no sense to me. And that is why I asked, to clarify.

Yeah, someone told Bush there were Weapons of Mass Destruction in the Middle East... Look where that got us.

Where the heckfire did you get your attitude? I want one, I have to go shopping with my teenager this afternoon, something tells me I might need one like yours.

Upfront ... perhaps. But the LL would be a fool.

At the end ... no way. If the tenant does not pay one month, the LL can begin eviction proceedings for non payment of rent.

Now I seem to remember seeing someplace that there is a limit on how many months rent a LL can receive....Am I wrong?

Most if not ALL leases state rent is due on the 1st of the month...

If a tenant chooses to pay ALL rent up front, than there is no problem becuase the terms of the lease have been ful-filled. In this case ALL monies have been paid...

IF a tenant tries to insist paying at the end of the rental period, they are in violation of the lease because it specifically states rent is due on or before the first of the month...

The difference is how the terms of the lease have been fulfilled...

Some state do not allow a landlord to accept more than 3 months of rent at one time.

Well let me just say this -- when i was in law school, I paid my rent in August (for August through January) and then in January (for February through May) and then in May (okay that was a short rental period). My landlords loved me. And they actually fixed things and liked me.

acmb:

What specific states have laws that prevent tenants from prepaying more than three months rent?
