What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Maine


Would it be advisable to apply for an OPT extension instead of H1b as I am looking to switch jobs with better prospects? Would filling an H1b in the current cycle and getting selected make things difficult for me if I were to switch jobs?

You should keep all your questions in the same thread. As you were told before, you can't change jobs on an H1-B.

What you can do on an OPT extension or if you're even eligible for such depends on details you haven't provided. While you can change jobs on the OPT, your OPT timeframe, even extended, has a definite time limit.
