What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Alabama

I know in some states that a Birth Mother can get one copy of the child original birth certificate. Is it the same in Alabama?

Thanks

If the child has been adopted, you are no longer the mother. Period.

I know I'm not her legal mother. I'm not her physical mother. I CHOSE to close the adoption after birth.the only contact we have is one picture a year and medical info sent through a third party. That was my choice. I did not feel it was my right to have an 'open adoption'. I thought it was best for the family and the child to do it this way. I wanted the third party contact in case of new medical info or medical emergency. The pictures are for my oldest daughter. They will help explain what happened when the time comes. this is also why I want the original birth certificate. I may have given up my rights as her mother ,but in my heart, I'm her silent mother.

You are her birth mother - true - but why do you need a copy of the original birth certificate to prove that to your daughter? You can't get one, but I was just wondering.

Alabama would have changed the info on the BC- there is no longer an "original" one. The only one that exists will have her parents listed and you are not entitled to a copy of that

Thank you for letting me know the answer. I don't want a copy of the new BC, that is for their daughter, not minethat I gave up for adoption. I wanted it to try and help my daughter understand. She has high functioning autism and things are not real unless they are tangible. I guess I'm still trying to figure out how to help one daughter realise the fact that is this other child. This was something my counselor suggested.

Her counselor suggested that I get everything i have from the child. We have started to talk about adoption and what it means. I have two pictures. Her counselor thought if I got her BC and the child's BC it would help explain. Now that I know this is not possible I will talk with her counselor and we will find another way to explain it to her.

You said this was YOUR counselor's suggestion. Which is it?

It is hers.

Why all these questions? I do not want contact with the child I gave up. I don't want to hurt her or her family. I knew the choice I made. I have no regrets. Don't get me wrong, it hurts. When I handed her to her parents I tore up the papers to turn in to get her back during the wait period. She has a wonderful MOTHER and FATHER. I have never tried to contact them and I never will. I gave my word. I came here with a simple legal question, I thank the ones that answered it. The ones who question everything like I'm a criminal, I'm a birth mother. Thanks for making me feel like crap.
