What is the name of your state? OH, but thats not important here.

My mentor passed away today. I just wrote him an email, the last, since I'll never see him again. Thought I'd share, since I'm a little emotional. Its about family, so I guess its appropriate here.

Dear Rick,

I heard that you passed away this morning. It really affected me, and I thought you should know.

You gave me a chance to try something. I truly sucked as a salesperson. You inspired me to be good at something I wasn't great at. I was amazed at the way you talked to people, and really got to know people's needs. You were one of a kind. Learning to talk to people made me a better teacher. I learned to "sell" science to 160 teenagers.

I had a little crush on you when I worked there. I'm sure you never knew.

Over the years, it was great to hear from you, and talk about what was happening in our lives. Your wife and kids were so lucky to have you. I know how much you loved your family.

I can't believe I missed you when I was up. I wish you could have met my little boy. He has tears on his little head because I'm crying as I type this.

You were amazing. I know you'll be great in heaven, but we will miss you so much here. I wish I could be there for the funeral.

I guess this is another example of needing to live like every moment is your last. Be nice to people and try to do the right things.

You are and will always be an inspiration to me. You were a teacher and a role model, a friend and all around good guy to everyone you met. You were honest and fair, and a just amazing person.

God bless you Rick, and your family that you leave behind. And your friends will miss you.
