What is the name of your state? Any and all.

Is it possible for moderators to put "stickies" on the forums?

For instance, have a sticky topic for the most oft asked simple questions around here, such as "What age can my child choose who to live with". Many posters come here with this same exact question every single day and the answer is always the same. Since the search function isn't being used, perhaps a sticky post with a title of "FAQ answered here, read first" in big letters at the top of the forum thread list might get them to click on it...?

Just a suggestion to cut down on the redundant posts by new members and the some of the remarks they may get for asking something that's been answered probably 150,000 of those 600,000 posts...

Happiness and sunshine all around!

Maybe. ;)

My response:

Unfortunately, no. There's always some variation to a question. Who would be "policing" the boards for such questions - - you? Me? And, in addition, people don't want to read the "FAQ" because they actually believe they are unique, and are the very first person to ever have that problem and question. Also, they want to have THEIR question actually answered, and have someone who'll respond to them instead of reading a dry FAQ, but could give them their answer much quicker. It makes them feel special.

Also, people are just too damn lazy to use the "search" button.

And sometimes it IS unique, like the recent thread with Unbornchild where the standard advise re jurisdiction proved wrong, now MT has ceeded jurisdiction to WA and the case is continuing in WA where it started before the child was born and before the mother fled the jurisdiction. The child's father starts unsupervised visitation tomorrow and no child support is ordered apparently because the cost for dad to visit is greater than the amount of child support due and because mom created the distance.

and besides, this version of the forum software, although having that ability, is powered by a database for which the 'sticky' must be switched on and programmed into the response.

You want to contributes to the salary of a good DBA which, in today's market, is about $85,000????;)

MG~ There is already a compilation of " Q & A Family Law Questions". They can be found when someone initially visits the site and clicks on Child Custody. http://family-law.freeadvice.com/child_custody/ Then it gives you the option to go to the forum if your question is still unasnwered.

Of course IAAL is right...even if someone had their answer- they'd still want to post their situation to 'make sure'.

I actually do have a question. One I think is unique. So I'm gonna ask it. In it's own speshul thread, even!
