What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? South Dakota

Good morning - I am now a Managing Conservator for a child. The child is from Texas, and is currently living in South Dakota.

Texas has granted me the Managing Conservator role - and parental rights have been terminated for a couple years now.

I want to petition the court for a last name change - so is this something I would do in Texas, or in the state she has lived in for the past two years, which is South Dakota?

Thanks!

You need to transfer the case to SD first, then petition in SD for a name change.
