What is the name of your state? I live in Arizona but this happened in Illinois
I was wondering if there is anything that I can do...

I had some back taxes done by an accountant, he originally told me it would be in the $2000.00 area to get them done.
I got my bill in the mail for $1800.00 which was fine, then 2 months later I get another bill for over $6000.00 added to that. Which made the total bill $8165.00. He never said it was going to be more or anything. It floored me.

He had all the paperwork for almost 1 year, and didn't even start the taxes for a good 6-8 months so that cost me another year in penalties and interest from the IRS. Everytime I called him he would say I am just getting to it. The last time I called we had already moved to Arizona and he said right after I get back from Vacation next week I will start it.

Almost 1 year later we had our taxes finished and I mailed them in. I asked that I can wait a few months to pay him and he said sure, get them all mailed and settled and then pay me, but 2 months later I get a note from him telling me to PAY SOMETHING! so i sent $200 that month and the following month $100 and the following month $100. (I am still waiting on an answer from the IRS as to a total of what is owed on those taxes.

Well then I was sending the check for $100 to the accountant for this month and I get a bill in the mail that he added on an additional $1085 service charge which makes his total bill to do my taxes at over $9000.00.
($700 short of costing me $10,000.00 to do my taxes????)

Is there anything I can do? I can't afford this and he never told me it was going to be that high or I would never have done it.
ALso he did our Illinois state tax wrong and now we didn't get the refund on that, and they say we owe money, for some reason he put our income at minus $68.000.00.
so I guess Illinois thought that our income was $68.000.00 instead of or $57.000.00
so now we are waiting on that since he messed that up.

Do I have any options at all legally to get that amount down? Or am I stuck for it?
Thank you. What is the name of your state?
