My husband had two DUI's within a 6 month period in 1996 and never complied to the fines of 2X 2,500.00 nor has he taken any mandatory classes. He's a procrastinator obviously, however he has never been in trouble with the law before nor since. He pays child support every month and has supported my two children from a previous relationship. We also have a child together. Six people rely on his income. He's worked for the same employer for over 8 years.
Although my husband makes good money, we've lived the past four years very frugelly due to inability to collect child support from my two children's father and paying back, "back-child-support". Also, my options for employment will broaden in a year when my youngest will be of school age.
My question is...Do you think a judge will show mercy (here in California)and give my husband a second chance for partial driving privledges and payment plans...Should we retain a lawyer? or are there other ways, which could save us a large retainer fee???

My response:

A California judge showing mercy with two outstanding warrants for your husband's arrest? Surely, you jest. Of course, get a lawyer because he's going to need one for both felonies. I can foresee, that between fines, court costs, and attorney's fees and costs, around $20,000.00 when all is said and done. And that doesn't include the mandatory jail time. Figure a year on that, if he gets a good attorney.
