We live in Alabama and have adopted a child who we have raised completely from age 6 weeks. The birth parents had little to do with the child and none for the last 2 years. No contact, gifts, money or interest. The biological parents were and are still married but seperated living with other "mates". The birth father now has a new child with the live-in girlfriend. The birth mother consented to the adoption with all the proper paperwork but the birth father was served in the proper manner according to the courts but did not respond to the proceedings. After all the necessary waiting periods, notifications, and proceedure in court, his rights were terminated. We were granted full adoption. I understand that the proper waiting period for finalization for this type of proceedure is 12 months. We have "served our time" with a few months over. We have recently been told that it has been told that the bio father now wants to cause trouble. My question is that now that all the paperwork is done, birth certificate, ssn, name is changed, are we in any danger of losing our child now. Can we breath easy or could things be overturned? Keeping in mind what would be healthy for our child, the influence of the biological family would not be mentally or emotionally sound, do we have the rights to turn them away for visitation even if they tried?
If you have any info or experince with any of or all pls. reply. We just want to raise a healthy and happy child with joy and not worry. Thanks in advance for your help!
