You never stop owning your exempt property, and you can purchase anything you want with assets that aren't part of the estate at any time. Nearly all income you receive after filing your petition is not part of the estate. There are some exceptions that can be important, though: life insurance, alimony and property settlemetns, and inheritances that you receive within the first 180 days will be part of the estate.

So, if you win the lottery one minute after filing, knock yourself out!
