What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey

We just paid our last payment on our seller financed mortgage. In 2001 we had our attorney write up a mortgage, did title search, deed was filed in 2001. Now it's done and paid in full! I printed out a "Satisfaction of Mortgage" which states the mortgage is fully satisfied and discharged. We will give to seller and they will have it notarized but then what do we do with it? Obviously it has to be filed with the county court but can it be mailed? Does seller have to go to courthouse and pay fee's? Can we take it to courthouse or is that something they must do? (I ask because they are elderly and want to make this as easy as possible) When it is filed with court will we get info from court saying that it's all done?
Thank you in advance for any help

Congratulations on paying off your mortgage. It's a wonderful feeling having your home free and clear.

Once you get the original notarized satisfaction it's no longer the seller's responsibility.

First make photocopies of the document.

Then YOU take it to the court or wherever deeds and documents are recorded and YOU have the document recorded and YOU pay the fee.

You'll get a receipt for the fee and once the document is recorded, the original will be returned to you with the filing stamp on it.

Handle it personally, do not leave anything to chance by making it "easy" on yourself.

This is too important to let slip through the cracks.

Thank you for advice, we are doing just that. Had seller notarize satisfaction yesterday and we will be taking it to the county clerk to have it filed.
