What is the name of your state? California

My question is as follows:

I am a fan of a specific cartoon series and have often thought of taking canvas and paint and painting one scence from each episode and possibly trying to sell my artwork. I was wondering if that would be breaking any copyright laws?

I'm really confused just because I know people that watch anime create doujinshis and sell them at cons, but maybe they get legal permission? I'm not sure...so any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ^__^

I've heard different things concerning Doujinshi and fan art.

I draw fan art of certain anime, but I've never sold them or attempted making a lil pocketmoney because a friend told me its legal only in Japan to make profit off of Doujinshi (fan made art and stories based on another comic artist's creation) because they have different copyright laws

I figured something like that. Japanese get more slack than we give them credit for. Even on TV, lol.

Thanks for the reply anyways. =)
