I'm not sure what to do need advice

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the name of your state? Colorado

I'm not sure how to handel this. I work in a casino in Colorado, and part my
pay is in tips given to me by the customers. The company I work for is telling all the
people that work with me , and me that I have to give those tips to other departments.
The way it is set up now is 10 percent of our tips go to the cashier who pays out the
jackpots etc, and now they want to take a bigger percentage out of our tips, and give
it to the slot techs, who work on the machine's. We are not being asked , if we want to
give this money to them, we are being told we will give it to them. Is this right ?? Is it
legal ??? The money is given directly to us on the floor, but we have to put it in a community
box , and split it among all the other people on the floor. We don't have any say in what
happens to the money.

The big thing is. If I do something about it I'm sure they are going to try and fire me for
starting trouble. I'm not sure how to handel this , and not get fired at the same time. I like
were I work, it just doesn't seem right, but I have a family to support, and I need the job.

Thank You for any help you can give me. Papasmurff

My response:

Hey, is your husband still dead?

Oh, and at the end of your post, you misspelled his name.

papasmurf, I'm confused. Your profile says that you are a slot tech, but in your post you are outraged for slot techs to get a share of everyone's tips?!

Yes I am a slot tech

I am a slot tech, but we have two different departments, one just works on the machines, and the other works with the public. I work with the public , and recieve tips from them. The other one just fixes the machines, and doesn't recieve any tips from the public. The tips we get are given directly to us not anyone else. The techs that work on machine's never interact with the public unless they have to. They have a higher pay scale then we do, because they don't get tips at all. The real deal is the company doesn't want to pay them more money, so they determined we should give them a part of our tips, they didn't ask us, they just did it. The techs that work on the machines are getting less money due to the fact they don't recieve any tips, even with the higher pay scale they recieve. This money we get is not company money, it comes directly from the players to us. Does the company have the right to take this money and do whatever they want to with it? This is like taking the tips a waitress makes, and saying you have to give part of the money to the valet parking because they park thier car. I hope I have made myself clearer.

Thank you. papasmurf
