Its is a syndrome that was first invented by Dr. Richard Gardner. It has turned out to be a very controversial syndrome due to Dr. Gardner's rather extreme views and the extreme way that "treatment" was recommended by Dr. Gardner.

Dr. Gardner was an expert witness for many cases. He was instrumental in many fathers recieving custody who had been accused of sexual abuse of their children. The mothers in those cases were normally either completely denied visitation, or recieved only very limited, supervised visitation. Some of those children grew up and then sued Dr. Gardner, because they actually were being sexually abused by their fathers, and it became worse after their fathers recieved custody and their mothers were removed from their lives.

Dr. Gardner committed suicide a couple of years ago.

PAS, was never taken seriously in many states and in those states is virtually unusable now. In the states where it was taken seriously, it is considered to be much less credible now.

HOWEVER....alienation itself has always been taken seriously, everywhere, and is much easier to prove than PAS.
