Once a child turns 17, it is difficult to do anything. However, if he takes the child from your care then you might have cause under this section..

Enticing a Child (Section 25.04)

A person commits an offense if, with the intent to interfere with the lawful custody of a child younger
than 18 years, he knowingly entices, persuades, and takes the child from the custody of the parent or
guardian or person acting as a parent or guardian. This offense is a Class B misdemeanor.

The best defence is to educate the child.

just a warning - have a friend that lives near Houston and her daughter is 17 years old. she didn't approve of the boyfriend that she had. she got a call at work one afternoon. her daughter had crossed state lines into Louisiana and had gotten married.

usually in Louisiana, a person has to be 18 years old to marry. This is not true in all parishes, but in some, the girl can be married at the age of 17 without a parents consent after talking with the judge who will be performing the ceremony. a few questions, which lasted bout 5-10 minutes and the ceremony was performed.

she spoke with the judge who married them. her daughter didn't appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and she truly desired to be married. they had talked about things that often occur during marriage and she was willing to take those chances and work through any problems. she was prepared for marriage.

she spoke with attorneys and was instructed that unless the daughter was willing to seek an anullment there was little she could do. the judge was acting within accordance to the laws.
