What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina

A family member of mine was assaulted in 2008 in NC. The assailent
was convicted but served no jail time. He is currently on probation.

The victim had a restraining order filed last Setp.

If the restraining order does not get renewed, is the victim still safe from being contacted by the assailant under the terms of the probation??

Thanks!

The restraining order was for 1 year. It's up this week I think.

The probation is 20 months.

The stipulation of the violator should have no contact with the victim in any way shape or form .

Not those exact words ,but you get the meaning .

If the victim is concerned the office of parole can always be contacted with the concern .

The order is up 1 year from the filing date. As for the probation, it would depend on the specific terms.
