In the state of Ohio how do i go about getting a paternity test done? How soon after the child is born do i have to get this done? If i start paying child support, and the test results show i am not the biological father will i still have to pay child support?

My response:

You begin by filing a Petition for Paternity in your local Family Law courthouse. Once your first hearing is held, you will be ordered, along with baby, to take a "court ordered" DNA test.

The court will give you the name of a testing lab. It is a painless test, where the lab takes a swab of saliva from you and baby. Real quick, real easy. It takes about 4 to 8 weeks for the lab to send the court the results.

On your next hearing date, you'll find out if you're the father. If so, orders will be made for custody, visitation and child support.

The above is simplified, and the process is much more involved in terms of the court procedures. So, get yourself a Family Law attorney, and get the process started.
