A few years ago my mother put electricity at her apartment in my name, and failed to pay the bill. I was unaware of this until I went to set up electricity in my name at my new apartment in October.
When I called PP&L, they alerted me to the past bill and told me it was sent to collections over a year ago and provided me with the number for the collections agency. PP&L then required me to pay a deposit before turning power on for me, which I paid.
I contacted the Collection agency after that and they told me of the amount, it was at $800 and some odd dollars by that point. They told me they can take 42% off if I paid in full within a few days, I couldn't afford this so they allowed me to make payments of it, and still decided to take 12% off for me. I paid it off in about 3 payments and they stated I didn't owe anymore.
So I figured it was taken care of. My first electric bill from PP&L was just my regular monthly charge which was less because they applied part of my deposit to it. I paid that, but then yesterday I got a bill for the second month which had my monthly charge but it added on the $800 some that was from the past due bill.
I wasn't able to contact PP&L over this yet but I was wondering if I had to pay the past due bill twice. I completely paid off what collections said I had to pay so I am not sure why PP&L is trying to bill me twice.
When I first contacted PP&L and they gave me the collections info they stated there was no other past due accounts and they had checked for me. So I am confused do I have to pay it twice?
I will be contacting PP&L on friday but trying to get an idea now of what is going on.What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
