What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia
I have a default judgment for CC debt of about $5000. I have been paying on it almost a year, $150 every month on time. I was laid off 3 weeks ago. I still have another parttime job I was at before the layoff. My questions:
1.Is it worth a phone call to try & negotiate a lower payment or a 'forbearance' until I find work? I assume I should at least notify them of my layoff, but that depends on the answer to #2:
2.Is the attorney representing the CC able to garnish my 'wages' (which I have little) or take money out of my account?

How the judgment occurred:About a year ago I got a notice of complaint for the credit card debt. I sent a letter to them (not certified) & called to try & negotiate with the attorney rep'ing the CC company. They said they tried to reach me after we talked but I saw no such attempts; I found out they got the default judgment when I again called them. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Absolutely... let them know. After all, they are going to find out if you stop paying as agreed.
As for trying to negotiate, you can do that but they have no obligation to agree.

Yes... and yes.
