What is the name of your state? AZ

Unsure if I'm posting this question in the right section but I will be starting a business (based in AZ) that will provide assistance to student-athletes interested in pursuing playing basketball in college guidance on how to do so. Well, there will be a fee for these services and in an effort to increase word of mouth advertising we will offer referral compensation for student-athletes and/or their parents that refer others. Since a good number of the individuals being compensated will be high school student-athletes and therefore under the age of 18 I'm wondering if there are any legal/employment issues that need to be kept in mind?

The issue is whether or not these individuals will be considered employees (vs. independent contractors). Can you explain more about how they will earn compensation?

You will also have a potential HUGE problem in compensation to athletes affecting their status. And finally, lots of states regulate 'sports agents'... and you will have to see if that will affect your 'plans'.
I am often amazed at how cheap people can be when it comes to entering the business world.
Get a GOOD local attorney to review your 'plans' and provide accurate guidance... to protect you AND the athletes.
