Banning the carrying or spraying of perfume is avoiding the issue. The trick is to TEACH them to be responsible, and banning the substance won't do that. It only perpetuates the idea that they needn't bother thinking for themselves. If they make the wrong decision, they'll just have the decision taken out of their hands. Then they not only can't make the wrong decision, they can't make ANY decision.

How will that accomplish anything?

(Well, you asked for opinions...)

So the only possible solution is a law banning perfume. Heaven forfend that we talk to the principal or the school board about tightening up school policy; no, we have to establish a state-wide - or were you thinking Federal?- law tying everyone's hands.

I'll add only my opinion on this issue.

I hate it when I go to church and the older ladies use 'Rose Perfume' from Avon. I know that their 'olfactory nerve' has tired of smelling the scent, but everybody else walking up on them gets knocked off their feet.

I know it's not the school but basically the same principal. People don't realize they smell like they took a bath in it.

My dad would say, "If they took a bath they wouldn't need to wear that stuff."

Perfumes are stronger in strength where as toilettes fade much faster.

Maybe the perfume companies should be forced to put some sort of disclosure on them. (LOL) "Warning people who use this product may give off an offensive odor to those around you. If you think you no longer smell as though you have any scent left on you, please ask someone if you need to re-apply" :D

There are people sensitive to perfume in every school. I'm not the only one. It mainly comes down to this, Which do you think is more important: a persons right to smell like what they want or a person's right to breathe at school?

The answer to that is obvious.

However, I still believe that a law is very much overkill and is the first step towards an environment that you would not like at all.

Breathing trumps perfume but that absolutely does not mean that there should be a law forbidding individuals from wearing scent. Okra and brussel spouts make me gag but that doesn't mean there should be legislation barring them from being served.

If your goal is a school rule, why are you asking about laws? Not yelling at you, just asking for clarification.

How many opinions are you looking for? How many did you expect to get? I gave you mine posts ago.

Actually, I didn't get a choice. My mother used to serve them all the time. Gag.

earthgirl, we've given you our opinions on the subject. I don't know what else you're looking for.

Since the school can pass certain rules within themselves. Maybe you can start a petition that addresses the issue. I'm not saying you'll get anywhere with it, but at least you would have tried. (Also would bring about public awareness.)

If they can restrict students from wearing certain articles because it can be considered gang related. Maybe they will restict or reserve an area for people who have a problem when it's gag related. :D

I hate it when this happens

The school should deal with problems regarding someone wearing an offensive amount of perfume on a case by case basis as needed. I hate it when there are a few isolated incidents and everyone jumps on the bandwagon to pass a law instead of just talking to the individuals.
