i have been divorced and have been paying alimony since april/1998, we do not have any children together, i located my divorce papers and noticed that the petition for divorce stated that my ex is employed at a salary not sufficient for the support of herself.(she works at the District Atty office) I am self employed and have a higher income. the petition for divorce states she is to receive alimony during the pendency of proceedings and permanently thereafter. the judgement of divorce states that i pay her $350.00 alimony, and that i pay the mortgage note until the balance is paid off. my question is, being the actual judgement of divorce does not specially state how long i have to continue to pay her alimony, but the petition for divorce states permanent alimony, how long do i have to continue to pay this? can i stop paying and let her bring me back to court? she uses that she works for the DA and she can get anything she wants from me..Please help me, I would like to move on in life, but i still have this excess baggage. oh sorry we live in Louisiana. Thank you for your expert advice.
