What is the name of your state? TN

Can someone please define the "Date of Last Activity" prior to January 1998? After Jan 1998, I know that there was a clear definition of what DLA means...last date the account went delinquent or that a payment was made on the account. I have an account that went delinquent back in 1997. Somehow I received an letter from a collection agency, or better yet, a "Junk debt buyer". This debt is past the statute of limitations for collection purposes in my state (6 years). In addition to that, the debt is past the 7 year limitation for reporting on my credit report. It has been 8 years!!!! The letter states that I have 30 days to respond or they will consider the debt as valid. I don't want to respond because since this debt went delinquent prior to Jan 1 1998, I don't want to take the chance of "resetting" the Date of Last Activity just by mereley communicating with them. Should I ignore them?????? Can someone please help!!!!!?????

Sounds like a scam to me, but I don't owe anyone anything, so I have never dealt with debt collectors.

Stand by for someone with knowledge....
