Settle an argument for me...My stepson is age 7 and has Cerebral Palsy..2 co workers say that when he turns 18, my husband does not pay anymore child support even though he has CP...

I SAY...yes..the support will be most likely for good. He is in a wheelchair, and will most likely not walk. He goes to a special school and I believe in my heart that support for a special child should be paid... Again my coworkers say no..age 18 or until graduation, and that is it. I say not...

help!

It depends on what the order says... If the child is unlikely to be able to support himself when he turns 18 (and it sounds like it), then the mother should take the order back for modification to ensure the boy's cared for. Tho I would hope that your husband would be willing to provide for his son regardless what the order says.

Since your son is handicap most likely the courts will require he continue to pay child support past the age of 18 since your son will still require care and money for that care.

Settle and Argument

:) Thanks for all the replies...I had a feeling I was right. Oh believe me, we have NO problem providing for this beautiful child.. He has CP and that certainly is not his fault..and as for my husband, he certainly has no problems with caring for him as long as needed.

I just had a feeling I was right. I did check my husbands divorce/child agreement, and it does not state anywhere about caring for him after the age of 18. My husband is a good man, so of course we both love him, and would take care of him for good, but I think that for the child's protection, maybe he should go back to court and have the agreement remanded so that the child is cared for.

Anymore advice on this is greatly appreciated....God Bless to All...
