New York City.

Hello,

I encountered a obnoxious cop over the weekend and would like some information regarding how deal with abuse of authority.

Where does a person go to file a compliant against police misconduct in New York City?

(I've got badge #, plate # and name)

Thank You
TP

Go to the precinct where he works out of and ask how to make a complaint against an officer.

I'm curious ... what did he do?

Hmmmmm...Carl, I think that will be a effort wasted in my opinion.

They won't be willing to get their brother in trouble & willl most likely make every effort to get out of it.

I was hoping their was some agency or place that handles & investagates this sort of misbehavior.

I found this http://www.nyc.gov/html/ccrb/html/history.html
&
http://www.policeabuse.org/

Also, could I call 311 and file a complaint with DOJ?

I'm curious ... what did he do?
His temperment was very poor. F this, F that & ever other obsinity you could concot.

One of those silly Italians who trys to hard.

It was not a racial issue, I'm not black.

I believe he was trying to show off in front of my girlfriend becasue she's very beautiful....

This is funny. Sure, file a complaint with the DOJ. Hell man, go to the FBI if you'd like. I'd love to hear what they tell you :D

Hey guy,

If you think that's funny, you've got a awfully dry sense of hurmor
And if you think using the F*** word is a matter of police misconduct, you should be on stage. It's one hell of a routine.

Well, if you actually want someone to do something about poor service or rude behavior, you go to the person's supervisors. If you want to rant and rave, you post it to a blog somewhere.

It's up to you.

If it's rudeness or a violation of policy, that place is the officer's superiors - at the precinct. if it is for criminal misconduct, there aare additional resources.

The first won't waste time with a complaint of a foul mouth cop, and the second would be about as effective as whining here or posting it on a blog - cathartic, but hardly effective.

You can ... but I doubt they will deal with non-criminal allegations. And being rude or cursing is not criminal.

Possibly a violation of policy, and certainly something his supervisors might be interested in, but nothing that will catch the attention of any other agency or office with authority over the PD.

Okaaaaay ...

carl, great advice...

I appreciate your attention to detail & professionalism.

I got no problems with cops. I'm actually quite found of police preseance becasuse I feel safer, espically in this city.

Perhaps his manner was like that becasue he deals with crap daily. Not a job I'd happily hold....

I'll check the precinct.
