police never returned my birth certificate

:mad: What is the name of your state? missouri.problem was in miami fla,around 17 years ago.hello i applied to be a police officer around 17 years ago.thet wanted my birth certificate and i gave it to them.when i changed my mind they told me they couldnt find my certificate.i called many times and they said they would look,but they never found it.my birth certificate was from a military base while my father was in vietnam.and it had gold leaf prints on it.i have a copy now but doesnt have the gold leaf on it.i now live in missouri.i get upset ever time i think about them losing my certificate.what can i do about this.i just wont my certificate back.they have to have it somewere??

All you can do is ask them about it. They can't produce something they no longer have.

Chances are very good that they have long since destroyed or discarded the file. 17 years is a very long time, and I cannot imagine any state would mandate agencies retain these records for more than 10 years if a person is not an employee.

I don't see the problem - just request a new copy of your birth certificate.
 
i have new bitrh cert.... but

i have a new one.well ive had it for several years but its not like the original with gold leaf on it.and doesnt say the military base i was born at.im mostly just pissed that they would lose are throw away someone birth certificate.

They may have operated under the assumption that it was their copy. Or, since you never came back for it, they just let it remain in the file.

I don't make a habit of mailing copies of transcripts or records back to candidates, either. They have two choices - show me a certified copy that I can make a photocopy of, or, they can send me a certified copy from the issuing office or agency. The copy I have in my file STAYS with the file.
