I Live in Ogden Utah and Insurance on my truck was expiring 02/26/2010. I was diving back to home at 2.15 am from work on 02/26/2010 , police stopped me and ticketed for violation of no insurance. Actual expiration date on my insureance was 02/26/10. I showed him my Insurance card with expiration date , and told him I am going to renew it this morning. But still he decided to ticket me. I feel like I was descriminated and I think Police used his power to abuse and descriminate against me.
At the same time I am not sure this is abuse or descrimination? I want to file a complaint either with city or court.
Someone please advise me what need to do ? and what are the procedures to file a complaint against? Also I like to know what are the options.

So renew your insurance-as planned; go to court and show the Judge; probably cost you 10-15 dollars for an Admin fee and go about your life.

There will be no problem if you just bring proof that your policy renewed that day, or you replaced it. The police are allowed to give discretion to what they ticket for,.

Is that so. I bet you did. What was the discrimination? What was the abuse? the ticket? please.

At the same time I am not sure this is abuse or descrimination? I want to file a complaint either with city or court.

Is your complaint that you were ticketed because you didn't have a proper insurance card? (12:01 am on that day, means you actually had no insurance on that day)

Someone please advise me what need to do ?

Bring your ticket, and proof of insurance and have the ticket dropped.

Make sure you have the completely valid insurance, go to court with this proof, and if you feel the officer was rude or unprofessional you can file a complaint with the agency. You gave no indication of unlawful discrimination or abuse of power, and other than the iffy citation issued on the day of the expiration, there is little that can be argued it seems.
